Humbling. On second watch this is just as harrowing and emotional as my first viewing.

As the greatest works of art often do, I find myself at a loss for words. Terrence Davies reconstructs time in such a unique and affecting way. Life seems to stand still in the mind's eye and the moment lasts with all feeling and weight until it fades into the next never to return. That ending really got to me.
It's refreshing to watch something so gorgeously somber. I love Herzog because he has such an earnest emotional and philosophical fixation with humanity's conflicts with itself and nature. He takes the subjects of his films exactly as serious as he needs to and lets his visceral feelings toward these images and experiences be a source of strength and connection.
His films have such a vitality even in darkness and I always feel in awe of both the harshness and beauty…
Chantal Akerman vibes. The disappointment in knowing your queerness will make it much harder for you to find what you want/need in life than others.
