    Everything you expect from an Eggers film. Great visuals, great script, great sound design and amazing attention to detail. 

    I find where this and the Northman have fell down is the heighten drama strays into pantomime occasionally. It seems to be actor dependent with the worst offender here being Aaron Taylor Johnson. But, this maybe sacrilegious, Lilly Rose Depp in a few scenes was also off. Weirdly not in the actual over the top scenes but more in the quiet moments where she’s trying very hard to get over her emotions.

    This is very contradictory to say but I think this would have been better if it was a lot less related to the main story of Star Wars. However the best scenes are definitely when the main story is involves so who knows. 
    I love the idea that there are all these little personal stories going on in the wider world and there’s interesting ideas throughout. For example Forest Whitaker being a more extreme faction within the rebellion is awesome…

    The first 15 minutes is amazing. Exciting action with good visual story telling. The montage showing Arthur growing up condenses a 15-20 min back story into 5 and is truly excellent. Then the actual film happens and it all falls apart.
