ugh. deeply offended by the egregious misrepresentation & transphobia others have detailed, but i also there was something about it where i felt like i couldn't look away.

I think this could have been a fine— even good— adaptation if they had taken out every fourth wall break so that Anne wasn’t also narrating and taking on Austen’s voice in the process. Austen’s voice is witty and scathing and self aware but Anne’s is not! I have other complaints (William Walter Elliot too appealing as a romantic interest, atrocious costuming for the period, etc.) but this is the main one. I didn’t give it lower than I did because I was entertained (if also, concurrently horrified). Also pleasantly(?) surprised they indicated Anne would join Wentworth at sea— interesting choice.
