  So the thing is, this could have had very little to do with the game, it could have had wildly inappropriate casting for characters, and it could have had a vulgarly tone deaf use of Jack Black as an obvious life preserver for a sinking ship IF it has been good in any way.
  Was it particularly funny? No.
  Did it have a particularly tight and well realized script? No.
  Action sequences I'll even be thinking about at all after…

  Ok so imagine you take the one from the 70s and smash it into half the runtime, and then to try to fill in the juice that squeezed out you add a little of Sphere(1997). You should watch the old one first.

  I had stumbled upon this movie a few months ago and was fascinated and bamboozled, baffled and amazed. I rewatched it for the 40th anniversary and I largely felt the same.
  Fascinated at how such a strange movie happened.
  Bamboozled by almost all that goes on in the film.
  Baffled it took so long for me to discover such a gem.
  Amazed by how fun, hilarious, and bemused I was by the experience. 
  There truly is no preparing the uninitiated. All I can tell you is that the film is a treasure. Watch it.

  Incredible casting, impeccable comedy, low key incredible practical effects, and a script that somehow makes a real twerp a very compelling protagonist. It’s seriously criminal this never made back its budget at box office.
