I love rewatching classic animated films to see how far the art has come but also to see just how much innovation was happening more than two decades earlier. The textures and lighting are incredible for the technology available at the time. It’s so fun to hear voices that have remained mainstays for Pixar over the years. And the story is so character driven with a better plot twist than I ever remembered. The villain is excellent, the heroes are inspiring, the other characters are endearing, and the comedy is on point. Plus who doesn’t love animated bloopers in the credits?
I’m a sucker for an inspirational sports movie and this absolutely delivered. What I loved about this one though was how grounded in reality it was - I loved seeing the story continue after the big win, particularly the struggles that come as a woman in sports and as an individual who’s achieved all their goals and now has to figure out another path forward.

The animation style in these films is just incredible, and the score matches it perfectly. The characters had really beautiful arcs, the callbacks and cameos were so fun, and the plot twists leave you trying to figure out what could possibly happen next. The villain is truly terrifying and sets up for a strong final battle sequence to come. I didn’t realize this film sets up for a sequel so be forewarned, and the pacing was a little slow at the start for me. Really enjoyed this one, excited for the next film.
I had the honor of seeing the original Broadway cast as a 13-year-old, and this movie absolutely captures the magic and wonder of that first experience. The music is iconic, the actors were beautifully cast, and the production is absolutely mind blowing. Even if you don’t like musicals, this is simply a well-made film with plenty of Easter eggs for the long-time fans.
