wow this was really well done. and honestly i think it could’ve gone farther and weirder, but they landed on the sweet spot of believable incredulousness.

alice and elizabeth gave excellent performances, on opposite ends of the spectrum of realism and humanity. the whole thing was infuriating yet somehow heartwarming.

the script brilliantly presents moral dilemmas as ethical ones, but with no resolution to what IS actually right or wrong. real or fake. genuine or artificial. they also did such a good job of world building barely at all but still with a clear sense of what that world

honestly i enjoyed this more than i expected to, and that’s probably bc i went in with the lowest of expectations

the music was actually very good, although mostly forgettable. the dwarf song was cute with the name callouts but also a little much.

i’d watch it again but only bc of the queen miss rachel zegler herself who is just perfect princess always

i spent probably 20 minutes of this movie with my jaw hanging open. what a behemoth of a film but brilliantly executed from top to bottom. it shines in the same ways as the first, with a moving score and groundbreaking cinematography, so i will not be surprised when it gets nominated for every single academy award possible next year.

for a big blockbuster action movie, the performances were incredibly nuanced and real. rebecca ferguson and austin butler in particular…

this movie is set up to be a prequel, so there wasn’t a lot of room for it to be amazing. i thought the setup and development of cassie seeing the future was very well executed. but the trailer gave away most of the best moments of action, and we didn’t need to see the entire “mom died in the amazon” story twice.

dakota johnson was the best casting choice based on the scene where she attempted to crawl up the wall, flopped on the ground, then says to the stray cat “no need to tell anyone about this ever.” just brilliant.
