This movie is sooooo beautifully shot. I loved the scene where Prabha is reciting poetry with her iPhone flashlight and the large window and the city lights are situated right behind her. And the last wide shot of the restaurant and the lights and the boy dancing back and forth so freely!!! I also just really appreciate how the intimate friendship between Anu, Prabha, and Parvathy is privileged throughout.
I’m still thinking about the man that Prabha found unconscious in…
I love this book and the film was beautifully adapted. I need to hire this cinematographer bc some of the shots were absolutely breathtaking like the xmas lights. But I didn’t love the stylistic choice to continuously incorporate shot reverse shots and as a result only place Elwood and Turner in the same frame ONCE (which coincidently is the poster for the film). What are we privileging here: a singular male gaze or an intimate collective friendship? Someone please explain this aesthetic decision to me. Also Daveed Diggs jumpscare!
