Shanghai Knights 2003
Somehow, I think I liked this one more than the first in the series. I miss the tie in between the setting and the title for the first one, a Western just feels like the correct choice...if there is one...for this type of movie. Yet, I found the characters, protagonists and antagonists, as well as the storytelling more compelling in this film. It flowed a lot better, the stakes felt higher, main villan felt like Tobias Forge's long lost brother.
Just felt like a better film all around.

Enjoyed the premise of the story and the characters, even if they all felt a bit one note. This is only the second of Miyazaki's films that I've seen, the first being The Boy and The Heron last year.
Really, really enjoyed this one. The great thing about drawn animation is that it is almost timeless. If you told me this released after the aforementioned Heron film, I probably would have believed you.

First time seeing it in theaters, a great introduction to a franchise that started from a low budget action flick, to one of the great cinema experiences of modern day film.
