This feels like a testament to why film is such a unique storytelling medium. There's really no plot here, it's just a marriage of the most unbelievably beautiful technicolor-drenched images ever captured and an all-timer soundtrack that feels like it was conjured using black magic. Essential horror.

A campfire ghost story in cinematic form, and a perfect showcase for Carpenter's mastery of mood and atmosphere. Also, a showcase for his talent as a composer, as he once again delivers a terrific score. If you've never seen this, I recommend watching late at night. That's the perfect way to sink into the slower, hypnotic, and dreamlike pace of this movie.

"Wherever they go, and whatever happens to them on the way, in that enchanted place on top of the forest, a little bear will always be waiting."

One of the coziest movies ever made.

There was no director whose work I resonated with more than David Lynch.

He was able to show us the weirdness and horror of our world. But, more importantly, he was able to show us the beauty. He believed that the light could always quell the seemingly boundless darkness, a message that I often find myself needing when my faith in humanity falters.

His formal inventiveness, singular artistic vision, and unwillingness to compromise said vision were just some of the reasons that he dies a legend.

Rest in peace, David, and thank you for sharing your art with the world.
