    surprisingly it actually does transcend the business success story genre and doesn't require sports knowing. each character sees money as a means to some other end, with one exception (the Jordan family's agent) whose portrayal is so harsh, do self-lacerating it felt cruel. it's fairly explicit: self, non-self, vanity, love of family, artistic vision, racism, all are handled treated. maybe i was just in a good mood, but the speech by the damon character is... good? his audience is disturbed…

    It took four or so viewings of this movie to make sense of what is motivating Nicholson and Damon characters. (I'll use actor last names as they are sufficiently famous that's just easier.) I realize these kinds of readings are sometimes tenuous and against the grain, so I want to alert the skeptical reader up front that this is not that. This movie is about two closeted gay men, and the action is almost entirely propelled by Damon's trembling desire…

    In the prequels we learn that the first set of precogs could see too far and had to be laid off when they kept waking up and screaming about malaria bed nets and vitamin deficiencies. The second set could see only the DC-area but were still too focused on increasing quality-adjusted life years in general, including by eliminating the conditions that cause crime. These three were lobotomized and made to watch thousands of hours of NCIS Miami, which brings us to the setup for this movie.

    As in previous Bourne movies, our hero is alternately sore about (a) assassin work he wishes he hadn’t done for the government and (b) his memory being erased. The persistent problem with this story is that it was also established that Bourne volunteered to have his memory erased so that he could do the assassin work.
