What might be most remarkable about Park Chan-wook is his ability to switch between farcical and sentimental. This film also feels like it has the perfect level of cynicism which always impresses me because I always tend to overindulge my cynical side. Also, more directors should have fun with cuts the way he does. The edit the first time the investigator flips through the deposition is 🤌

This movie is perfect. Such a treat to see it on 70MM.
I forgot how funny the movie is. I also love the bit where they pass the bottle of whiskey around after they escape the railroad’s men. I can’t imagine a modern movie taking its time with a bit like that.

What Happens Later 2023
What a fever dream of a rom com. I respect that while it dares to imagine having a positive encounter with an ex at a regional airport, it doesn’t dare go as far as to suggest the airport would cease to be a hellhole.
If Oppenheimer was a psyop to prepare the masses for nuclear war, this film is a psyop to normalize the decline of America’s air travel industry.

The Brutalist 2024
I’ll have more coherent thoughts on this one day, but I need more time to digest it. Really enjoyed how about halfway through this 3.5 hour movie there is a scene where a penny pincher gets screamed at for destroying art.
I also feel the need to shout of all the beautiful vistavision shots where the camera was mounted to the front of a moving vehicle.
