Call Me by Your Name 2017
Expertly directed, powerfully atmospheric, not nearly critical enough of the central relationship at hand. If you’re gonna make something like this work you need more character exploration than what’s given. Instead the back half is chock full of would-be profound moments rendered empty platitudes considering there’s hardly any acknowledgement of the gravity of the situation. Left me feeling empty.
