Jodie Foster's performance=HOLY SHIT. Anthony Hopkins' performance=HOLY SHIT. Ted Levine's performance=HOLY SHIT. This film's screenplay=HOLY SHIT. Practically everything else here=HOLY SHIT. I generally prefer atmospheric, non-realistic horror flicks (you know, supernatural stuff, slashers, gothic horror, and folk horror) over serial killer investigation movies that win Oscars, but there's no denying that this is anything but a masterclass piece of cinema.

Before Midnight 2013
Definitely the harsh dose of reality entry in the series. I have to admit that I didn't enjoy it as much for not giving me the same feelings of unbridled joy and optimism that the previous two films did, plus I wasn't overly thrilled to see Jesse and Celine being so much more cynical and mean-spirited than their former selves, but ultimately I would still call this a pretty perfect conclusion to the trilogy. Real life forces you back down…

A Pistol for Ringo 1965
December is my month for Pasta Westerns and Christmas movies, so this is just too perfect. It also happens to be a stellar early example of the genre. The story is efficient and entertaining, the film looks fabulous, the Morricone score is solid, Nieves Navarro is a goddess, and Giuliano Gemma plays a hilariously cocky asshole of a gunfighter whose kills are always suspiciously in self-defence. Plus the ever-awesome Fernando Sancho is here in one of his best and most memorable roles. An all-around winner for me and one of my favourite Spaghetti Westerns.

Spookies 1986
Tons of 80's charm, a bunch of likeable doofuses for characters (they're your typical dumb, shallow, and annoying horror characters, but I still found them endearing and wanted to see them make it through), and best of all some absolutely fucking phenomenal practical effects, with a whole truckload of monsters, creatures, zombies, and demons offered up on the menu. The SFX here definitely stood out the most, but ultimately I enjoyed this one from top to bottom. A totally bonkers, totally 80's, and totally worthwhile ride!
