  I love this kind of movie, like an American hong sang soo. tight knit exurban/small town working class where if you’re not from there you’ll feel it and you easily get stuck for life. Drifting protagonist. Love it

  I was way too young to appreciate this when I first watched it and remember it being one of my least favourite Scorsese’s from back then, but this is a really fucking good movie and feels breezier than some 90 minute features, this is how you make a good movie

  Although Francois Truffaut said it is impossible to make an anti war film, and yes the glorification of war is almost inescapable when you choose to film battle, I think both here and in Paths of Glory Kubrick manages to come to the closest to making war films which contain their own negation of any I have seen.
