a very awkward and only ever mildly successful attempt at merging the old western with violent exploitation. i like the meandering opening town section but the clumsy script and broad characterizations means the second act really drags and this doesn’t really take off at all until the last third when zahler can indulge in all his gruesome imagery. the flat, digital, often washed out look really hurts this as a western too. richard jenkins mvp and he’s really the only thing here with any emotional pull outside of the gore effects.

our own private traps. all stuffed up with guilt and left to hang, forever in stasis. it’s really all in the beat where the car briefly stalls in the mud and the whole world seems to stop for a second. psychiatrist scene is the ultimate pretend it didn’t happen for me.

there may be better movies that come out this year but i doubt any will capture the current moment so well and so uniquely. pretty much a nightmare, looks like someone downloaded a virus into my brain, felt like it would never end, korine goated.

"Be ready to suffer. Don't be afraid. I saw my husband, I saw this boy across the room. And I loved... I just loved him the first moment I saw him. And we had a life. And it was beautiful, and it was difficult. And I thought I would be with him for the rest of my life."

Song to Song is about the physical expression of our feelings through our bodies, through dancing or playing music or the touch…
