Too little interesting dialogue to be invested in those characters—but maybe this is the point (?) It only is interesting when the tension is high, in build-ups that reminded me of the Safdie Brothers’ films—but never as sustained or satisfying really. I’m struggling to see why this one got the Palme d’Or in Cannes. I much much prefer—and recommend watching—his previous films which, in my opinion, are much more successful in portraying lost and helpless characters.
