In my review of Evil Dead (2013), I wrote that one of the film’s shortcomings was the lack of the insane hilarity the Deadites brought to the original trilogy, whether in an on-the-nose way, like in Army of Darkness, or in the they’re-so-doomed-that-it-circles-back-to-being-funny way, like in Evil Dead II. Not that anything could have saved that forest fire of a movie but at least then one could say, ‘Well, at least the Deadites were cool.’
