    Take Out

After Sean Bakers big win at the Oscar’s I’ve decided to go back and watch some of his earlier projects. I really loved Take Out. This film is as low budget as it gets, and to a degree that is felt, but it also contributes to its strength. The movie was shot in a take out restaurant during operating hours which adds a level authenticity that is hard to recreate. The story is also very compelling and I did not…

  • Flow

    Flow

A testament to the power of animation in storytelling. Flow has a rich world and great story despite having no dialogue. All the emotion is conveyed through the animal’s expressions and noises. A very good movie and worth a watch.

This was a lot. Was it well done? Yes. Did I enjoy myself? I don’t think so. Im going to go see it again next week cause I promised my friend I would go see it with her, and while I don’t want to see it again for a long time maybe this will be a chance to better digest a movie of this kind. That being said I love Ari Aster as a director and after Hereditary and now this I can’t wait to see what he does next.

Blindspotting is a hard movie to sum up because it is about so many topics that range from interracial friendship and gentrification, to gun violence and police brutality among others. Despite that it does a pretty good job of connecting all these things to weave an interesting social commentary. The only issue with so many themes in one movie is that it risks neglecting certain themes, but the film did for the most part, pull it off.
