  This is genuinely one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen. Devoid of anything even remotely approaching personality, this vapid, meaningless pile of drivel fundamentally misunderstands, or worse yet ignores, the basics of storytelling and performance. It feels as though it was made by an AI that ingested trite inspirational Instagram quotes (probably because it was) and unfortunately seems to be indicative of Netflix’s upcoming output. I’m an angrier person for having seen it.

  It’s so hard to rate this. The first two episodes felt direct and propulsive and the third was scattered and flat. I think a more focused documentary on the early years of Kanye’s career (the years during which Coodie was present and recording footage) would have been a slam dunk. As is, I liked it, but I feel the first two episodes served as rising action to an unsatisfying conclusion.
