i actually read edward ashton’s mickey 7 over the new year in eager anticipation for this film… only to find that i didn’t like the book very much. there were too many unresolved philosophical ideas, a disorderly narrative structure because of its use of flashbacks, and an undeveloped cast of supporting characters.

surely - surely! - the masterful bong joon ho would set these issues right? robert pattinson? steven yeun? naomi ackie? what of these talented actors? surely their expertise would…

‘I told the Padre the truth, man, I like it here. You get to do what you want, nobody fucks with you, the only worry you got is dying. And if that happens you won’t know about it anyway. So what the fuck, man.’

opening with some of the greatest gothic visuals i’ve ever seen (or visuals full stop for that matter), it’s a shame that faust trails off into a dull romance plot throughout its second and third acts. i still enjoyed it and am glad to have ventured out into a realm of filmmaking that i haven’t given a go before, but i definitely found myself becoming increasingly disinterested in faust as it went on.

“I’ve been like a father to you, be a son to me now.”
“I have a father, his name was Ben Parker.”

watching this in the cinema for the first time was so so surreal. spider-man has always been a special character to me and finally getting to watch tobey’s iteration of the web-head on the big screen was so awesome. so excited to see spider-man 2 next week.
