Really solid worm-type movie. As far as desert, man-eating worm universes go, big fan of this one.
I really like how they rode the worms. I’ve always considered Timothy Chalamet something of a worm-rider.
I like the worms used in warfare. They’re like battle horses or battle elephants, but they’re battle worms.
There’s a moment in the film where a worm eats a bunch of corpses, which I thought was pretty neat.
I like how there’s a sequence with a little small worm guy, but I don’t like how they kill it and extract it’s worm-juice. For that reason I’m removing a star.
Narrative did not compel me.
-dream sequence got stale and felt like it missed narrative potential
-characters felt one dimensional and never fleshed out
-story pacing was off and stakes never felt truly raised
-rules of the universe were never clearly established
Visuals were not motivated.
-large format cinematography felt unnecessary and distracting, especially in a horror scenario where seeing less can be more valuable
-lighting was nice, but a little plain—> one nice moment was when all the robots…
