Under the Skin 2013
I came out of this film wondrous and wide-eyed: so enthralled by its construction, by the perversion of the male gaze.
I then found out that many of these scenes were filmed candidly, with people who were not actors and then later gave their permission for the footage to be included. This ratcheted my appreciation even further.
Scarlet, statuesque and perfect, is compmetely out of place next to the average people included in the movie, making her seem even more alien and intriguing.
This is a movie that reframes and re-looks at gendered violence in a way I think everyone should see.

Saltburn 2023
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
So. Most of what call be said about Saltburn's class issues has already been said. By people far more eloquently than me.
The thing for me that really knocks tjis down from a five star to a four star movie is the fact that the orchestration completely ruins both the storytelling and the messaging.
Perhaps for other people that would be more than a one star drop, but I liked the rest of the movie far too much.

Sharkansas Women's Prison Massacre 2015
The budget was $20 and a handful of pocket lint. Somehow though, I was captivated. Sometimes in 'bad' movies, you can tell that no one gives a shit. Not this time. Every single actor had something to bring to the table: the prison girlfriends, the buddy cops, the rogue geologist -- no one phoned it in. The shark effects were excellent, the spikes giving it a primordial feel. The camera work (while admittedly nothing special) still spoke to the thought and effort put into every inch of the production.
Perhaps the movie wasn't very good. But really, did it need to be?
