  Shortly after 9/11 and with war in the Middle East coming back, Paramount must have thought the time had come to try and make a prestige movie about it in the form of an update to the crucial Cold War classic.   A movie about some characters having a difficult time making a movie while director Zulawski chases the actors playing those characters with the camera, makes them eat glass, almost runs them over with cars, etc.
