    Wicked

    ★★★

Yeah, I don’t know how to rate musicals. I can’t tell if I’m grading the film itself or the source material, which is really strong in this case.

I did notice that some of the songs had been truncated weirdly, maybe because certain people (*cough* Jeff Goldblum *cough*) can’t actually sing—but then why cast them in the first place?

I don’t know. There’s lots of pretty colours and CGI bullshit and the Emerald City looks like it was cobbled together by AI. The songs are good, though. And I guess the performances are fun. I don’t know why you’d choose this over the live version.

    The Room

How do you rate this? It’s amazing, but The Room does not conform to any grading scale known to man.

    My Best Friend's Wedding

    ★★

My girlfriend wanted to watch something “light” instead of another slow-burn, indie horror movie. Ultimately, this was more psychologically disturbing than anything I could have chosen. Fair play.

  • Baby Driver

    Baby Driver

    ★★★

Entertaining enough, Baby Driver is something pretty special, marginally undermined by its soundtrack - which is almost expertly lame, perfectly mirroring a quintessential middle-aged, white dad's record collection.

Besides that, the secondary characters are wonderfully realised - almost to the detriment of the protagonist - and certain seemingly predictable moments are reworked in pleasantly surprising ways. Baby Driver doesn't disappoint, for the most part.
