It feels too soon to watch a Lynch project after his passing but how could I possibly watch anything else tonight. Devastated to find out the news, a visionary artist whose art will long outlive us all. I think like me a huge number of people feel connected to his films, he’s one of the few people who accelerated my love for cinema and he will be missed dearly.

We are extremely lucky to be alive at the same time…

Soundtracked by some of the great UK anti-fascist bands for a journey following a group of skinheads in the 80s. It demonstrates how easily young men are brainwashed with white supremacy through nationalism, which is now even simpler through the use of social media preying on impressionable boys. It’s as prevalent now as ever, the people filled with nothing but hate and jealousy creating abhorrent divisions in society.

There was a line early in the film which reminding me of the great Stewart Lee bit below.

Very much struggling with this time in Spielberg’s career, I get that these were the beginning of him tackling serious dramas but I just feel very indifferent about them. To nobody’s surprise Bale is brilliant and I really enjoyed his performance, but for me this just didn’t hit the emotional and sentimental notes that I usually love in a Spielberg film. Besides the ending anyway, that obviously got me.

De Niro smoking that cigarette as Scorsese zooms in with ‘Sunshine of your love’ plays is one of my favourite shots in his filmography. One of the most re watchable and quotable films and a firm favourite, what a ride!

Pattinson and Ruffalo are so insane in this, I love it. Bong Joon Ho is always so great in combining comedy and important themes. While this might be abit more in your face about it than some of his other projects it works just as good. Also love that he’s using all the praise from ‘Parasite’ to make whatever he wants.

That’s two sci-fi satirical anti fascism and anti capitalism films in two days, might be my new favourite sub genre.
