  While I still think it’s a great and unique vision I’m less convinced of its classic status as I was when I was 17.
  Peter Bradshaw titled his 5 star review- ‘either a masterpiece or a massively dysfunctional act of self-indulgence’. Personally, I think it’s somewhere in-between or both at the same time.

  What Alexander Payne understands that Hollywood appears to have forgot is that not every movie needs to have massive set pieces, be set in famous locations, and have drastic world ending consequences. You’ve probably read somewhere else from one of the many lovers of this film that they ‘don’t make them like this anymore’ and while it is contrived for me to say that I can’t deny how true it is.
