Who Framed Roger Rabbit 1988
Hoskins is even funnier than I remember. Fleischer's extremes are a bit more grating, but when he reins in his performance just a LITTLE it's very effective. Good news: the reason I had nightmares about Judge Doom and "the dip" for years after I saw this as a kid was NOT "because I was a kid and also I got scared easily" but rather "because they are, conceptually and in execution, elementally terrifying."

I just... cannot sanction the kind of filmmaking that is so baldly enthusiastic in treating human beings as little more than exploitable meat. I'm not going to bang on much longer about this, but horror as a genre is kind of sacred to me, and I have always felt that its conflation with gore pornography is as close as I've ever been to understanding how a deeply devout person feels about sacrilege.
