  The underlying message of religion being corrupted and used as a tool of control is poignant. And some of the crowd scenes are breath-taking.

  However, despite my respect for its deliberate pacing and thriller DNA, it still felt redundant and superficial in parts. We see glimpses of depth with our two main characters, but I wanted more scenes between or replacing some of the espionage and political games; this is likely intentional, with the focus on a clever plot, but it doesn't fully work.

  Otherwise, Fares Fares steals every scene as a wily agent of the state, whether he's the bully or the bullied.
