Very well done. What it was trying to say was kind of underwhelming —though maybe that’s my own (intracommunal) frustration with Asian/American diaspora art— and it affected me more as a romantic drama than a work about migration and assimilation. Still probably the most well-executed new movie I’ve seen in a while, even if it did feel milquetoast. Maybe it over-relied on ~Silences~ in a way that felt unearned. Idk. I watched it a month ago and am just writing…

Anora 2024
I enjoyed this but it doesn’t say or do anything super interesting until the film’s last couple of scenes. And unfortunately, those belated attempts at exploring Anora’s relationships to sex and sexual violence end up betraying the shallowness that the rest of the movie’s flashiness distracts from.

sex, lies, and videotape 1989
beautiful acting, script, soundscape & soundtrack. immediately want to rewatch this because I fear I was too horny for James Spader to really appreciate it. he really killed it though
also further proof of my theory that impotence leads a man to appreciate sex & eroticism on a level that few others will ever reach... shout out to the guys with ED. you are all perverts and I love you
