    Even my aesthetic appreciation for this film can be attributed to a ghostly presence polluting me from the internet. The loneliness of time that does not move.. What would a 2020s ghost metaphor even look like, other than this?

    A sad vibes film through and through, and a successfully SCARY ONE, though in that it is a bit overlong. 4, I guess.

    Baker’s sorta a reactionary idiot, and his movies do reflect that. Weak characterization, slurs aren’t ~the dialogue of the working class he can’t keep getting away with this!! I also think it’s sexist (damn this guy has so much empathy for sex workers that one of them wildly accuses a character the audience knows to be kind as a rapist, and then wordlessly has sex with him? Don’t even get me started on the oligarchs.)

    So much works here, but what feels especially special for me right now is the soundtrack. Melancholy, repetitively trapped - I wish I could speak more confidently on music, but it just matches the mood so well*. And in a movie all about sound: it should, so I’m grateful.

    I’m not really a Fincher head, but it’s clear he was so inspired by this, especially for Se7en. Less plot-wise (so crass and gratuitous there, explicit in its “meaning,” whereas as this…
