The suede jackets! The leather jackets! Joan’s legs! I’m in love with it all.
Never been so relieved a film was over - far outstayed its welcome. Pure body horror and gore and maximalism but felt a little like it was all shock factor and never interrogated its core ideas beyond the surface. The only part that felt somewhat earnest was Elizabeth’s inability to take herself on a date - otherwise I don’t think the film could decide if women’s bodies were the punchline or the rallying cry. And on reflection I’m not sure…
Very sad, especially when you’re hungover, and very intense. I cried! A lot! Don’t wanna be on the edge!
Edit: after my walk I’ve concluded this was really very good. Andrew Scott was heartbreaking. And the strange isolation of the tower block as a stage to set the drama was smart - a celestial eyrie where AS’s character is part of the city, but separate.
It was actually a very London film.
