  Watching this movie is akin to going on a famous monument tour, where you constantly are pointing your finger thinking "Wow! It's that thing that I've seen recycled in media my entire life!"

  The theatre of people I was in continually were commenting how the people should know better, how the value of military advancement supercedes the lives of the crew, how annoying it is that the people work against their own interests. In my mind they are missing that those concepts are the reason that the movie is fantastic. Those ideas of man's folly are the sole reason that you are drawn so heavily into the narrative and without them you have another trife sci-fi horror.

  It's a damn shame that the directing was really not up to par, because I actually love aspects of this movie. The creatures and concepts are really fresh feeling, and the concepts are really fun and silly. Unfortunately the set pieces, shot compositions, and acting direction were just abysmal. Everything about me wants to love a movie about a conan-esk hero with his crack team of animals ready to take on the world, but unfortunately our hero in question is being weirdly rapey with someone who I am led to believe is his cousin.
