The Brutalist 2024
A lot to process here. Many have (rightly) lauded the technical achievements and performances in this film, so no need for me to do the same. The music rules! It would have been cool to see more vistas in VistaVision.
I was shocked at the lameness of a story told in such grand terms. The first half is rapturous. The second half only barely holds together thanks to Brody, Jones, and Pearce. Perhaps my expectations were too shaped by prophecies of a cinematic promised land. But that’s the whole problem with promised lands, isn’t it?
