I think that the winning recipe that Bong Joon-ho uses to create his movies is to take a simple metaphor and plunge deep into it. Many of the interesting/fun/depressing intricacies of his movies come out of these thorough explorations. In Snowpiercer, the train cars are a strict metaphor for class and the most memorable moments were when the lower class would make their way to a rich person's car.
