Manny becomes the personification of Hank’s past traumas. Manny knows nothing and has human physiological reactions to things that Hank has to explain. In his explanations he unravels harmful experiences or misunderstandings that have impacted him and he unlearns and learns new things.
An absurd exposure of human psyche, but it works. The ending reveals the main character, Hank, to be truly lonely and mentally ill, and so the fact that his soul searching has been so relatable throughout the film adds an even finer touch.
