There is so much to unpack here.ย
Between the one-take shots, the acting, the dialogue, the story line, etc. I cannot express enough how much I truly enjoyed this. The third & fourth episodes are award winning. Fucking astonishing.

A beautiful monochrome cinematic piece with a touch of Portuguese influence.ย
Going in blind, I had to double check the release date because I almost thought this film was way older than it seemed to be. It gives off a very โ50s/โ60s vibe from the very opening scene.ย
Filming in black&white in a [mostly] postmodern world is reach for most but when executed properly (with The Eyes of my Mother) is so beautiful and creates a more ominous feel to everything that unfolds. ย
No slow burns, kind of cuts to the chase from the get go.
I can only imagine watching this for the first time in the 80s
