I tend to grade animated films on a curve, and I'm agreeing with the masses that this is an animated masterpiece.
The third act of this movie is one giant action-extravaganza spectacle that's like Dragonball Z combined with Harry Potter, with a pinch of Marvel/DC, all under an ancient Chinese folklore skin, with Pixar-level animation. It's fuckin' rad.
Be sure to watch the original Mandarin audio version; the subtitles are worth it. The voice acting is a lot less hokey…

I think this made me retroactively like 'Longlegs' less... This was such a bizarre experience, and not in an enjoyable way. The attempted blending of tones was jarring and not well balanced at all, causing the film to fail at being either scary or funny. I knew whenever the film was supposed to be funny and how hilarious Perkins apparently thought it was, but it felt like an edgy middle schooler who just got into 'Happy Tree Friends' came up…
'Oppenheimer' should be embarrassed, honestly....
I'm joking, but this movie fucking RULES. I'm an apologist for the Warner Bros. "Monsterverse," but they actually should be embarrassed after this.
An unforgettable experience that was worth every penny, and I truly hope they decide to release it in IMAX again.
