the rocket shot perfectly sums the movie to me. i gotta find the name of this book about "mollusk people," how much our infrastructure is part of us. this is through a process of creation/destruction, transformation of materials to tools and settlement through labor. playing with time almost does enough to make this feel organic.

hard to watch the brutality. it seems like fellini is interested in love prevailing when people are very cruel to each other. this improbable love is the point, i think, but it still feels hollow to me, even as a parable.
really resonate with the common critic’s comment that la strada is timeless. the physicality of zampanos dominating behavior speaks to coercion and violence in different countries and decades.
