An incredible 4K presentation in the David Geffen Theater at the Academy Museum to a rapt sold-out crowd. The movie was beautiful, gross, perceptive & disturbing

Bong Joon Ho interviewed John Carpenter before the screening. Bong asked Carpenter to score an upcoming movie. (He said yes!) Carpenter literally counted down the minutes until he said he was going to meet his drug dealer.

Bong asked who is the Thing. Carpenter said there is a giant hint in the middle of the movie, but added that none of the actors knew because they had to play human.

    "I knew. They didn't know."

At the TCL Chinese IMAX. Probably fewer than 20 people in the audience, so it felt like a semi-private screening.

The movie doesn't work in a way that I really like.

A packed, sold-out show on Valentine's Day in the big room at the Academy Museum. There was applause during the intro when it was announced that the 35mm print came from the Joe Dante, Jon Davison, Tim Hunter collection. My kind of crowd.

I was struck that the lines by Sheryl Lee's Good Witch -- "Don’t be afraid… If you are truly wild at heart, you’ll fight for your dreams. Don’t turn away from love." -- might be as clear a statement of purpose as David Lynch ever made.
