  The house became a wife factory

  Devastating story of a family of girls banned from living their lives, being forced into marriages and having to prove their chasteness, while being accused of being promiscuous. 

  They keep dreaming up ways to escape their oppressive situation, imprisoned in their home with their strict grandmother and bullshit uncle. 

  Lale keeps her strength even after the group dwindles and is determined to gtfo of there. Really great performances by the young women.

  They all really pushed through that pain. It was worth it. 

  Beautiful characters, the lot of them, even drunk stuart making everyone uncomfortable and sensitive Paul.

  Brenda Blethyn as Cynthia Rose Purley is total mess and I mean that in the most endearing way. She is incredible.

  Hortense is a bright light with her silly faces and gorgeous smile. She is brave and it is impressive.

  When I was 9 I had to get prescription glasses and I remember putting them on, and for the first time seeing every leaf on the tree outside my bedroom window rippling in the breeze. This movie made me remember that and all the times I put on music and cried, driving cars alone.

  Within the first scene or two I thought, this makes me want to make a movie too.
