The Night of the Hunter 1955
While the first act suffers some issues with its pacing, it's a beautifully shot film that slips into a dreamlike haze the deeper into it you go. The river scenes in particular have the feel of a childhood adventure story; a depression era Huck Finn. The whole film is hung with an eerie calm, never allowing you to fully relax; violence lurks hungry. The composition of so many shots have the feel of a work of art, casting dramatic shadows.

Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom 1975
The film opens with sweeping vistas of gorgeous Italian countryside, to be swiftly replaced by a viscerally unpleasant experience for the remainder of the film. Gratuitous violence and sodomy are all this film has to offer, containing neither a real plot, captivating dialogue, nor much else of interest. If you're a real film buff you might watch it just to say you did, but for anyone else this film offers little.
