It’s a wonderful homage to old movies and horror films while feeling like its own Looney self. I’ll need to give this another watch, but Eggers has done it again. There’s more of a focus on sexuality and how that is connected to hatred, which I adored. Most of the characters are people wanting to love, but also wanting to be free of sin, and the movie explores that balance.
Also, the ending to this movie is surprisingly something that can be translated into an eventually happy one. And considering how much of a downer the last three Eggers movie endings were, it’s pretty refreshing.
