The Little Mermaid 2023
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
So, for the first 20 minutes I was really enjoying the movie. I actually felt my smile lighting up every time Halle sang. But as the movie went on, my smile started dropping and, by the time Eric started singing his terrible song on the beach like a music video, I realised that the movie was going to be bad.

A few thoughts:
- incredibly funny that they removed so many songs, which just goes to show the pointlessness of translating the original movie to song
- every actor was fairly charming, but unfortunately each character felt like a caricature of their 2004 counterpart
- absolutely hilarious how both janis and damien got nameless, blink-and-you-miss-it gay love interests
- angourie rice is lovely but she doesn’t really have the same power in her voice as someone like erica henningsen
