I really struggle to understand how these projects come to life, seemingly so easily. Minute after minute, The Gorge reveals itself to be a no-brainer. Not wanting to be purist or categorical, a project of this magnitude should stand the test of answering, at least, the questions from the previous scene - from building a connection between two characters who cannot communicate and cannot see each other without goggles, to them interacting almost telepathically, with musical showdowns and chess brawls,…

True freedom and the end of suffering is living in such a way as if you had completely chosen whatever you feel or experience at this moment. This inner alignment with Now is the end of suffering. Is suffering really necessary? Yes and no. If you had not suffered as you have, there would be no depth to you as a human being, no humility, no compassion. You would not be reading this now. Suffering cracks open the shell of…

Simple yet incredibly effective, hence the brilliance of this movie. With a cast full of talent and screen presence, especially the everlasting Cate Blanchett, with her mystical gaze, hypnotic tone, and seductive aura, and Michael Fassbender, in his robotic and, most of the time, cold-hearted performance, resembling The Killer, this movie is driven by an under-complex plot that does not require much more complexity, enveloped in a mysterious cloak of lies and manipulation by the most skilled in that business until unraveled. Soderbergh manages to serve us a very enjoyable setup that is greatly enhanced by the stylized score and editing.

A formula that works while maintaining the right degree of requirements without breaking boundaries. A very safe maneuver that still achieves some sort of grandiosity, in its own spectrum, without necessarily pursuing it, with Jack Quaid and Ray Nicholson maintaining the energy that sometimes misses in this energetic but repetitive concept.

Boromir really is one of the greats.

We can easily see the fantasy surrounding the characterization of the people of Middle-earth: from the humbleness of the Hobbits, the wisdom and enlightenment of the Elves, to the Dwarves with their confidence, even Aragorn with his guidance and predestination.

And then we have Boromir; a human, a fighter, for as long as he remembers, against the ever-stronger forces of Mordor that encumber his conscience with guilt and despair over his people. We…

    ★★★½

Evil Does Not Exist is an exercise in contemplation on human nature. Even though I do not find it as deep as it should be, the momentum this movie carries, together with the thoughtful cinematography and some deep and provoking dialogues, catalyzes a quiet, but nevertheless innovative, way to expose different branches from the same tree.

Although I understand how such an ending could be divisive, I do think it works and resonates perfectly with the intentions of this film.
