  Yo this was alllll over the place - it made so much sense learning this was based on a 370 page novel. I enjoyed Pattison's nonstop weird noises, being Nasha's ride-and-die from the jump, and some of the humor. The rest of this was such a mishmash of plot, tone, and acting that I struggled to get into it.

  Riffing on mkdecksters' 3 Pillars of Movie Reviews Criteria approach for this one.

  - Script: 2/5. Most of the problems are due to this being tied to the original and doing it poorly.

  - Watchability (acting, enjoyment in the moment, vibes): 4/5. Action scenes were SO FUN. I could actually tell what was going on and it made a big difference! Denzel and the emperors chewed it up.

  - Production Design: 3/5 Coliseum looked rad, costumes were neat, I am unqualified to say more. I'm also weighing this less because I want to.

  Good movie, some really cool shots, great ending.

  Unfortunately, partway through I thought "wait is the pope allowed to exercise?" and then I was so distracted thinking about that I Iost 30%+ of my focus. Can he dress casual, or is there ornate pope athletic gear? Would he use dumbells of marble and a treadmill with gorgeous detailed architecture on its frame? Are floor exercises more godly than lifting or running? Google is no help. This is all I can think about now.
