The Last Emperor 1987
The beginning and ending are solid story-wise, but a big chunk of the middle loses me. The main draw of the film, the visuals, are consistently gorgeous throughout. It’s just not that interesting sometimes. I have a hard time caring about whether Manchuria will regain its independence or what affair Puyi is having this time. Maybe I need to fix my TikTok attention span.
