  if Beckett made The Road, or cormac mccarthy made The Bed Sitting Room. weird, bleak, post-apocalyptic, absolutely deranged, brutal, magnificent. the most subversive use of hymn singing ive ever seen in a movie. someone on here described george lucas as a combination of Eisenstein + Walt Disney, well thats this movie too. it would make such a great double bill with The Old and the New. in fact this film makes the case for real subsumption even better. the more…

  Watching this helped me understand why i love the Lumière films - joy of movement, joy of accomplishing tasks, joy of collective activity, joy of the aesthetics of doing the washing up. The possibility of a beautiful life. The possibility of washing our eyes to see anew now AND one day making a new world to live in with new selves. The possibility of routine joy!
