    Gladiator II

The only semblance of emotion in Gladiator 2 is the recycled stain of its predecessor: a single-minded man driven by revenge. Upon closer inspection, our supposed protagonist reveals himself as a melodramatic hypocrite, content to kill whomever as his master’s lapdog(Danzel Washington - played by Danzel Washington)–until young Mescal inexplicably transcends into a champion of the people.

For context, I went into this not expecting to like it. Anora is an objectively fantastic film. While the first half hour is hard to watch, the chaos that ensues is pure genius. The writing is fantastic, the way it weaves total anarchy with quiet subtle dialogue; slowly revealing their true character is utter genius. The performances elevate it even further, Mickey’s (Anora) particularly outstanding, her supporting actors also nailing their respective roles. And that final scene encapsulates SO much more than just the film’s characters. Fuckin’ incredible storytelling.

It’s a fun one. There is more to like than dislike so it’s a solid 3.5. It’s does a good job balancing character studies with action sequences. The ending becomes more and more ridiculous as literal boxes of ‘Panzerfausts’ sit unused as the bodies pile up.

"All I know is we didn't build it, and that's reason enough to assume the worst and blow it to kingdom come!"

This is the best movie of all time. It teaches ignorance and hate is more dangerous than any weapon. It will make you laugh, it will make you cry, and do it all while humiliating the U.S. military complex and its fear-mongering. What more can you ask for?
