great film about the african immigrant experience in nyc. not really political, but rather focused on layered character building and displaying the humanity in ordinary people. the score & dance as metaphor was also >>> very good highly recommend!

The African Desperate 2022
I watched this in 2022, but here’s what I remember: So unhinged, and well shot - especially given the smaller budget. Holds a special place in my heart because it echos the (some of) my liberal arts college experience - the gaslighting, virtue signaling and general whackness of the environment was weirdly cathartic & evoked a sense of solidarity
