  First time seeing this in a theater setting AND on 70MM! I have never found the Midge-Carlotta painting funny - am I crazy?? I have always found the film overall to be really tragic and a little frightening, not the laugh riot that it seems audiences all over the country seem to think it is....

  Fun to watch but unfortunately suffers from showing its cards too early and essentially being what I call "Advanced Screenwriting Course Writing". I love robot girls across all media and this didn't tread any new ground. Sophie Thatcher's outfits were really cute!

  I'm not surprised that originally reviews dashed this film, mostly critics who are men and old white women. Yes, the film is ugly (I mean it's 2003...there was nothing good looking about the early aughts!), yes, Campion's Top of the Lake works better as a crime procedural. But is this film bad? Not at all!
